COMPETE Welcomes White House Announcements on Jon Wellinghoff and Suedeen Kelly

Washington, D.C. — Today, the COMPETE Coalition released the following statement, by Executive Director Joel Malina, congratulating President Barack Obama for designating Jon Wellinghoff Chairman of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), and for announcing his intent to nominate Suedeen Kelly to another five-year term at the Commission.

The COMPETE Coalition welcomes Jon Wellinghoff’s designation as Chairman of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and Suedeen Kelly’s pending re-nomination. These announcements demonstrate the Obama administration’s commitment to meeting our nation’s energy and environmental challenges head on.

Both have demonstrated leadership throughout their distinguished tenures at FERC. Both have a clear understanding that competitive electricity markets serve a critical role in fostering the innovation needed to meet growing demand for energy while at the same time reducing greenhouse gas emissions, increasing energy efficiency, promoting the development of renewable energy sources, and upgrading our national infrastructure.

“We look forward to working with Chairman Wellinghoff, Commissioner Kelly, the entire Commission and FERC staff as they continue to promote competition policies that serve the greater interests of the American people.”
